- Minimize Reference Resistor Sourcing Risk with Automated Resistor Cross-Reference Tools
Capacitor cross-references tool
How does the new capacitor cross-reference from Sourcingbot help to make my BOM more robust?
In order to safely manage risk in electronic component sourcing, good market analysis is required. SourcingBot generates cross references for your bill of materials automatically. Resistors are commodity parts with many suppliers. How can you tell which supplier is best? SourcingBot is here to help.
Capacitors are simple two-terminal passive components. They are mainly used for filtering, energy storing or voltage spike suppression in high-frequency applications. In today's electronic applications I design easily from a handful to over 50 capacitors, also with different topologies in a single board design. Whether it is an Electrolytic capacitor, multi layer ceramic capacitors each electronic components can be crossed referenced with its our criteria.
I have to pick and choose from a vast array of types and over 50 manufacturers. In some designs I can use standard, well-known types - in others special capacitors are required. This makes my BOM robustness more difficult and it costs me more time to find sufficient 2nd or 3rd sources. Usually I use lists from past designs, Excel sheets, in-house databases or simple 2nd source tools but those solutions break when a new capacitor or capacitor type is used which is not listed yet.
Two options to work with capacitor matches
At this moment Sourcingbot stepped-in and helped me a big time with their new and recently rolled-out capacitor cross-reference tool. So far I found out 2 usage options. First, an easy and simple one and Second, an advanced for different usage/perspective cases. The simple version gives me the Top 5 capacitor matches in a simple table and I can see the main parameters and their difference with a single view. The actual product match is shown in a simple-score, the matching score. Filters are pre-adjusted to give me the best balance between the number of similar/exact product matches and a reasonable number of matches to choose from.
If I need more technical options, Sourcingbot also offers me an expert mode. I can adjust the cross-search for more application specific requirements like exact footprint match, tighter tolerances, smaller footprint or even Automotive requirements. All this help is available on their website and via API. Their service is free-of-charge, easy to use and helps me to save a lot of research time to make my BOM designs robust.
